ISA U11 National Hockey Tournament – Thursday 11.2.16

On Thursday 11th February, ten year six boys were taken to the Lee Valley Hockey Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. At this tournament, the children were given the opportunity to play some of their matches on the official Olympic pitch; a fantastic experience for all involved and a dream many young athletes would have! The children began the day in a round robin pool in which they drew three of their matches and narrowly lost one. Following their achievements in the morning, the team was placed in the plate tournament for the afternoon. This was a straight knockout tournament beginning with the quarter-finals. At the end of full time in the quarter-final match, the score was 0-0 and went to penalty shuffles. OGS won the penalty shuffles and on to the semi-finals. A tough semi-final match against St.Teresa’s school which once again ended with a draw and another penalty shuffle! A strong penalty shootout for OGS took us into the final to be played on the Olympic Pitch. With spirits running high and the children feeling more and more confident throughout each match, the boys were eager to show their progress and hard work. An amazing and truly fantastic 3-0 win against Oakfield Prep concluded the tournament and OGS were announced Plate Champions. A huge congratulations to all of the boys that participated within the event.
