It was my pleasure to take the Oakhyrst Grange 5-a-side football team to Nottingham on Friday for the National Football Finals. Having won the ISA London South regional round for this competition it was a fantastic opportunity for boys to go and compete against some of the best ISA 5-a-side teams in the country. After a very early start and a lengthy journey, we finally arrived at the venue. Preparations began as soon as we got there and in the preliminary round we won 4 out of our 5 games, scoring many goals along the way. The intensity of the games was high and many skillful players were on show. The team worked fantastically together and for each other and a well-deserved rest at lunchtime was provided by the organisers. Having finished second in our group we progressed through to the ‘Cup’ phase of the tournament. At this stage, we played three games and the effects of the early start, long travel time and the high intensity of the preliminary games began to show but the boys never gave up trying and working hard as a team. The results went against us at this point and our final game of the day was a decider for 7th/8th position. We then went on to play some fantastic and enjoyable football and won the game.
A fantastic overall position of 7th in the ISA National 5-a-side Finals is something that every single player in that team should be extremely proud of. As their coach, I cannot thank them enough for their hard work, exceptional sportsmanship and desire to work, learn and improve their performances. Well done boys, I am extremely proud of you all.
A big thank you to all the parents that made the long journey up to Nottingham with us and supported us throughout the day.
