U11 Football Tournament 4th November- away at Caterham School

On Saturday the 4th of November OGS football team played in a football Tournament at Caterham Prep School. The team was made from Ethan K, Matthew C, Luke S, Harry P, Tom P, Joseph F, Declan B, Sam G and myself. We arrived ready for a tiring but exciting day at the Caterham ground. We were the first game and against Caterham but we conceded a really good goal from their striker. We had far more possession than them in second part of the match but the score remained 1-0 to the end. Next were Hawthorns. We came out very strong with Sam hitting the post and myself hitting the crossbar. Unfortunately they scored a goal during the match and the end score was 1-0. We were then up against Banstead Prep. Miss Dance wanted a win after we lost a few weeks ago against them. Once again we attacked from the start and with a few shots just missing the back of the net. They then hit us on the counter attack and scored. The score was 1-0 to the opposition at the final whistle.

After a long team talk we found out that we were in for the plate competition. We were now really wanting a win. We were against Reigate St. Mary’s, the game begun but by now we did not have any subs. We only had seven of us because Tom had to leave us early and Ethan had been injured in the last match and gone home too. We went out even harder now to show that we deserved our place in this semi-final. A RSM boy ran up and took the lead within the first few minutes. But our team fought back well with Harry scoring from a corner. We kept on fighting for a win and we got another corner. I took the corner and somehow it ended up in the back of the net! The final score was 2-1 and a massive win for OGS. After that win we were in the Plate Final. We were against Banstead Prep once again and battled so hard but could not hold on for a draw. The Banstead side took the lead and then scored again late on in the match to end with the score of 2-0 to them.

I would like to thank Miss Dance and Mr Burke for coaching the team and all the parents for coming to cheer us on. I would like to say a special well done to Matthew C for standing up and becoming the goalkeeper for the last few games because of Ethan’s injury to his leg. Over all we came second in the plate.
