Friday 13th saw us hold our own Football World Cup themed sports day. We opened the games with an opening ceremony with each class carrying a flag that we had previously drawn in assembly. Year 6 who were Germany had secretly learnt the national anthem and gave us a roaring rendition. We started with the sprint races, which are always very competitive. We then went into the novelty race, which saw classes dressing a football supporter to buying an England shirt. The climax of the event was the senior house relay, which saw 4 children from each house running in a velodrome style relay. This was a close race with the winning team only just crossing the line first. The whole event was won by Hillside with Stanstead finishing very close behind them.
A big thank you to all of the parents who came to watch and cheered their children on. Please see the parent gallery for photographs of sports day.
Mrs Pumphrey, Head of Games
Mr Gear thought that you might like to read some of the feedback that parents gave us:
I just wanted to say what a wonderful afternoon Sports Day was today. It was so lovely to see the children having such a great time and please pass on our thanks to Mrs Pumphrey and all the teachers for their hard work. It was a truly lovely event.
I just wanted to send a quick email to say how much I enjoyed the school sports day on Friday. Ian’s parents came along too and also had a lovely afternoon. It was clear that a lot of hard work had gone in behind the scenes to make it run so smoothly and the games were great fun to watch.
Please do pass on our thanks to Mrs Pumphrey and all the rest of the team involved!
Finally, as I haven’t had chance to say it before this email, thanks for the class concert and sports day last week. Both were good fun and well run events.
