On Monday 25th January a team of 23 children from years 3 to 6 travelled to Frewen College for the ISA London South cross country event.
The U9 boys and girls were the first race to run; all of the competitors went off at a blistering pace. When they had cleared the top field the competitors had thinned out; it was an amazing sight to see so many red tops sprinting for the finish line. Samuel Gill was the first Oakhyrst runner to cross the line and achieved an amazing 2nd, Declan was closely behind him and finished just outside of a medal in 4th place. Next was Estee who came in 1st for the girls and Lea was very unlucky not to medal and came in 4th. A flurry of red shirts followed with Harry in 6th, Sebastian 10th & Ollie 16th. The girls had Aspen in 10th, Erin O’Connor 11th, & Tamsin 12th.
The U11 girls ran next, once again the field was very fast and the event was won by Lingfield Notre Dame, who was clear of the rest of the field. Rose ran a magnificent race and came in 5th, Eleanor, Sophie, Erin & Megan came further down the field. The boys were up next and once again the whole field sprinted off at a very fast pace. The first person we could see coming down the home straight was a red shirt worn by Conrad who looked as if he was in a race on his own. Kieran was in the closing pack and came in 8th with Thomas, William, Alex, Jake, Jasper & Max further down the field.
Well done to everyone who raced as each every one put in a tremendous amount of effort. The runners who finished in the top 10 have qualified for the Nationals in Rugby which will be held at the end of February.
