As part of Book Week a small class of children from Oakhyrst Grange School, in Caterham studied the book “A Fish In Room 11” by Heather Dyer. This is a delightful story about a family of mermaids who live under the pier and befriend a young boy who works in the Grand Hotel. The children were very fortunate to have received an invitation to the Grand Hotel in Brighton from the manager Andrew Mosley.
Upon arrival the children were met by the doorman and shown into the foyer, where they met Andrew and his staff. He took them up to room 11 where he told that the room had also been occupied by Fat Boy Slim and the Earl and Countess of Wessex amongst other celebrities.
The children were treated with juice and amazing cookies and then proceeded on a tour of the hotel, one of the highlights was climbing the 123 steps up the grand staircase to the top of the hotel. They then climbed back down the 123 steps into the Empress Suite, where they were told tales of celebrities who had performed shows in the beautiful ball room.
They then proceeded back to room 11 where they had a reading of the book. Andrew and his staff were amazing and the book was brought to life by the visit.
