A group of four swimmers from Year 6 and Year 5 (Ollie D, Ethan K, Aspen P, Lily-Mae O) competed in the ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) South East Division Primary Team Championships, held at Guildford Spectrum on Saturday 12th May 2018. This competition serves as the qualifying round for the ESSA Nationals: the top three teams from each race qualify for the National Finals, held in June at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
Our Oakhyrst swimmers qualified to swim in both relay events, the medley and freestyle. Each relay comprised of 2 heats and a final to determine who would be representing the South East at the Nationals. We competed against 16 schools from 6 counties. The races were extremely exciting and very close. Our Oakhyrst team showed excellent team work and swam amazingly well and came first in each of their heats. This put them through to the final for each relay.
The team showed grit and determination in the finals, where they improved on their qualification times and were rewarded with PB’s in both relays. As the team took second place in both events, they will now go forward to the National competition. Very well done to you all, I am so proud of you. Thank you to the parents who have supported throughout.
