On the 9th October Oakhyrst’s Chamber Choir attended the Woldingham School Junior Choir Festival. During the afternoon we attended various workshops which involved learning African songs, how we should warm up our voices for singing along with a very integrated counterpoint round depicting all the instruments of the orchestra! This was all followed by a very welcome and kind invite for dinner which was devoured and enjoyed by all. There were seven schools in total who participated and we congregated in the most impressive auditorium for the evening concert. Jane Werry ( Director of Music at Hayes School) adjudicated each of the schools who performed a song that they had prepared. We performed a song called ‘All Good gifts’ from the musical Godspell and the adjudicator made the following comments:-
A really committed performance, you did really well without a conductor.
Lovely diction and a good full tone.
What a fantastic experience it was to stand on that stage!
