On Saturday 10th November Mr Gear and a group of pupils joined in with other schools and associations to plant metal poppies in honour of the 217 World War 1 heroes who lost their lives from the Caterham community. The service commenced at 10.00am with a welcome from Reverend Frany. 22 readers then read a list of names in groups of 10. Children were then given a poppy to plant before writing a message on a tag to be tied ‘on the wire’ after the service. The whole ceremony was very moving and finished with the planting of a white poppy of peace and a final closing poem and prayer from Reverend Helen Burnett.
Mr Gear would like to thank Gracie B and Robyn L-O- Year 5, Finn K, Finley M and Olivia S – Year 4, Alexandra M and Calvin R – Year 3 and Heath K – KG and their parents for joining in with the celebrations and representing Oakhyrst Grange School at such a memorable event.
