Oakhyrst Grange School Remembrance Events

Oakhyrst Grange School has always made a special effort to remember those who gave their lives during battle. 2018 marks 100 years since the end of World War 1. This year, to remember the sacrifices others have made, our work has included:

  • covering the backdrop in the Cameron Hall with home-made poppies which are all different but all the same
  • writing letters home “from the front line”
  • writing poems related to fighting in the trenches
  • a simple cross in the stairwell
  • a display of headstones for long lost relatives and the “unknown soldier”
  • a “freeze action” assembly focussing on how the war affected the children at home
  • “Tommy”, a silhouette of a soldier over-looking the playing fields, kindly supplied by PFOG
  • playing of the “Last Post” at 11.00 on Friday 9th November followed by two minutes silence
  • tissue poppies in all the windows

Thank you for all the support you have given in the preparation of these displays. Let us never forget.
