On Friday 16th November the OGS Boys A Football Team set off to play in the ISA Tournament at Rosemead. The team of brave boys was made up of Ethan K, Joseph F, Declan B, James T, George K, Jack P and I. It was a miserable day but that did not dampen our high spirits. When we arrived, we quickly became excited because there was so many other schools competing and a great atmosphere. At the end of the day, we had almost everyone injured (none seriously, luckily), but it was a great experience for all of us.
Our first match was against the hosts, Rosemead, and boy they were good. We lost 2-0. This continued in the second match against Duke of Kent, the eventual tournament winners, although we did manage to get a goal past them in a 5-1 match. The next match was against White House which we lost 3-1. However, the OGS boys fought back in the next match against Heath House with a victorious 1-0 win, with a banging goal from Declan! Our next game against Westward was a narrow 2-1 defeat. We carried on the fight back in the next game against The Mead with a 2-2 draw. In the last game against West Lodge, we scored a goal in the first few minutes and had our hopes up for a win. Unfortunately, they had a very skilled player who got a cracking top right goal soon after to equalize. To make things worse, our goalie Jack bravely took a ball to the face and had to come off in the last 2 minutes, leaving us playing on with no goalkeeper and an inevitable second goal in the dying 30 seconds of the game with a header from the corner, making the final score 2-1 to them.
Even though it was a mixed bag of victories, defeats and draws for the OGS side, we all felt proud of our efforts and enjoyed a great ham sandwich at the end of the tournament.
