We all held our breath to see if the rain would hold off as we had to move to our reserve day due to the weather. The morning saw a bit of rain but we set up and then it looked like it was going to be a nice day. For the first time ever both Hillside and Stanstead went into the competition with equal points. We opened with our usual ceremony with each class representing a country. The event started with the sprint races for years LKG – Y6. As per last year we used technology on the finish line to disentangle the arms and legs on the line! All those children who had previously won a medal in the field events were presented with their medals and they all looked very proud of their achievement. The novelty races are always entertaining and especially the year 6 event which was hilarious. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the big relays as we had some more rain and the grass was too slippery.
Going into our final event which was the year 6 relay, Hillside and Stanstead were neck and neck with points and even though Stanstead won the race and achieved a valuable 5 points Hillside won the overall event with 208 against Stanstead’s 207.
Thank you to everyone who came to watch the event as I know the children love to have you there.
