The ISA National Athletics are held in the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, which means an early start for everyone. Our team consisted of our defending champions for the 4 X 100 relay – Darcey B, Lea G, Estée N & Aspen P. Estée N was also competing in the long jump and the 600m and Lea G was competing in the high jump.
The high jump event was the first to take place and Lea G was up against some very tall and talented young ladies. Unlike a standard competition where you jump till you are out, this time you were only allowed 7 jumps. We decided that Lea G should go straight in at 1.15m (her best is 1.21), she cleared this on the first attempt. The bar was then going to go up in 5cm increments. It took 2 attempts to clear 1.20m with lots of other competitors failing to clear. Unfortunately, another 5cm was too much for Lea G and she finished a very respectful 5th.
Estée N was next to compete in the 600m where she was looking to improve upon her 3rd place from last year. Estée N did not disappoint and stormed to victory with a new PB, she then went onto compete in the long jump and achieved a bronze.
The event we were all waiting for was the 4 x 100m relay, where the girls are unbeaten for the last 2 years. With a perfect execution and slick baton change overs the girls increased their lead with every change over and won convincingly (by 20m). A very happy team, parents and myself!
