On Friday 6th March, Oakhyrst participated in the ISA U11 6-a-side Football Tournament at Crystal Palace. It was an incredible opportunity and a great experience. We played seven 6-minute matches against other schools all trying to grasp a place in the finals. In our first match we were against Whitehouse. Despite some amazing defence from Adam R, and Joshua D, Whitehouse scored early on and we unfortunately lost 0-3. The second match was against Elmhurst and it was action packed. Josh D was great in defence. Isaac D, Samuel M and Jacob H had some brilliant tackles. Sadly though we couldn’t quite manage a goal so we drew that game 0-0. Thirdly we were up against Duke of Kent. Despite some hard work by Jack P in goal, we lost the match 0-2. In the fourth game we were up against St Olaves. Henry P scored a fantastic goal! Unfortunately, despite some really great teamwork we were ultimately beaten 1-2. In our fifth game we were up against Lingfield. They had incredible skill and although we worked hard, including some strong defence by Tomas S, we lost 0-2. After that we faced off with St Christopher’s. They were a very tough team and we were defeated 0-3. The final match was with Rosemary’s School. We had some great plays at the bottom half, but we couldn’t quite score a goal and we lost 0-1.
We had an amazing experience and certainly learned a lot. All of the players did a great job. I would like to thank Miss Harrington for coaching us and taking us and Mrs Denton for assisting on the day as well.
