World Book Day officially took place during lockdown this year, so at Oakhyrst, we postponed marking this annual event until we were all back in school.
We stayed in our classes this year and focussed on one book in each year group. However, we managed to include a variety of subjects such as Geography, Maths, English and IT as we delved deeper into the books.
Year 6 studied The Silver Sword by Ian Seraillier, Year 5 The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy, Year 4 used Skysteppers by Katherine Rundell, Year 3 did Roald Dahl’s Danny Champion of the World and Year 2 worked on Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Year 1 focussed on Julia Donaldsons’ Stick Man and Kindergarten worked on Eric Carle’s Hungry Caterpillar. In LKG, children brought in their favourite stories and shared them.
We all agreed that it was great fun to share books in this way, and some pupils have expressed an interest in reading more from the author they have studied this year.
Happy reading, everyone!
