We set off early on Friday 11th October to the ISA London South Swimming Gala, it was a cold and frosty morning.

Students from Years 4, 5 and 6 were chosen to attend, it was a very exciting day, but I think we all had butterflies from nerves.

When we arrived, we saw a huge pool, it was 50 metres long – the size of an Olympic pool!  The first event was breaststroke, then backstroke and then front crawl.  The final event was butterfly.

We all supported each other and it was an amazing experience.  We came home with 10 medals! 2 GOLD, 1 SILVER and 7 BRONZE!

Alec came first in both of his races and will be representing the school in the finals, go Alec!

We all did incredibly well and it was a day we will always remember.  We don’t think we have ever felt so nervous in our lives and we think that’s because we care so much.

We want to say thank you to Mrs Evans and Mrs Cox for taking us and for supporting us.  They gave up their Sunday for us all to practice and we wouldn’t want any other swimming teachers, they are the best.

A huge congratulations to Bonnie B (Year 5) who has successfully got into the Brighton Girls Football Academy for her age group where she will train and play as a goalkeeper.

Bonnie has started the season brilliantly for school and has been recognised by other schools and coaches for her talent in goal. We are all very proud of Bonnie that this talent has been recognised and know that this is such a huge achievement for her. Hopefully, it is just the start of her sporting journey.

Mr Smith and Miss Lomax and the whole of Oakhyrst Grange School.

On Saturday 12^th October, a team of Year 5 & 6 pupils attended the annual Caterham School Football Festival. 8 schools battled it out for either the Cup or the Plate.

Oakhyrst Grange were put into a group with Caterham Prep, Banstead Prep and Hawthorns Schools. The results are below:

Oakhyrst v Hawthorns – 2-1 loss (Vivienne the goal scorer)

Oakhyrst v Caterham – 4-0 loss

Oakhyrst v Banstead Prep – 1-1 draw (Caiden the goal scorer)

This meant that we finished 4^th in our group (on goal difference) and had to play Elmhurst School in a plate semi-final. The result didn’t go our way (4-0 loss) but Elmhurst were a very strong side and were the overall Plate Winners.

The team stuck together really well and didn’t let their heads drop despite some tough matches. We were very proud to be the only school at the competition to have girls within our team and they both performed brilliantly. The team will continue to work together to improve for future fixtures and matches.

On Wednesday 9th October 2024, Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to Aberdour School for a netball tournament.  There were two teams A and B.

We were in the B team and our first match against Ewell Castle  we won 4-1. It was a tough game.  Against Aberdour Blue we lost 7-2, but against Aberdour Red we drew 1-1.

Chinthurst won 5-0 and one of the players shot her first goal.

The B team finished in third place coming back home with bronze medals.

On a mild afternoon some Year 5s and all of Year 6 girls went to Aberdour to take part in a Netball Tournament.  Ewell Castle and Chinthurst were two of the three teams we played.  Our girls were made of an A & B Team.

First match – Oakhyrst vs Ewell Castle.  We successfully won this match, although the score was tight 4-3.

Second match – Oakhyrst vs Aberdour. This was the most challenging and competitive game. Unfortunately we lost.  This game was fun. Score 2-3.

Final match – Oakhyrst vs Chinthurst. It was an even match as we drew. They were a relaxed team to play against. They were gentle rather than rough. Unsurprisingly we drew. Score 1-1.

The results were exciting, the A team came second.  We went home with a silver medal arounds our necks.

On Tuesday 8th October 2024, all the Year 3 & 4 boys travelled in the minibus to Chinthurst School to play a friendly football fixture. There was a Year 3 match on one pitch, and a Year 4 match on the other.

The Year 3 team started very strongly and scored a couple of early goals thanks to Shray. Throughout the match, they kept attacking the goal and ended up winning 10-1 at full time. Goal scorers were George, Shray, Max and Harrison. The team played with excellent attitude throughout and I was pleased with the effort they put in.

The Year 4 team started strong as soon as the referee blew the whistle, Freddie, Rhian and I attacked the goal and we all scored in the first half. In the second half we all tried our best to allow others to score and worked really well as a team. In my opinion Chinthurst also played a really good game. Overall we won our match 5-0 and were all very pleased.

On Tuesday 8th October both Year 3 and 4 girls took part in their netball match against Aberdour Prep. They started off warming up on a wet afternoon.

Year 3 played on the first court and Year 4 played on the second court.  Starting with A teams, they really worked well together, getting the ball down the court whilst working as a team.

After 7 minutes B teams came on and played their matches working extremely well as a team with making space and attacking the ball. After playing 4 matches, we all went up to the main hall and enjoyed our hot food.

It was a lovely afternoon with lots of smiles and fantastic netball. Very proud of all the girls who took part in the fixture.

Friday 4th October, was a warm but wet day at Lingfield College for the U11 ISA 5-a-side Football competition. There were 24 schools, split into 4 teams but only one could be the winner!

Milan, Vivienne, Alec, Bonnie, Laurence, Caiden and Jude all represented Oakhyrst Grange and we were all full of excitement. The first match kicked off at 10.30am. The game was short but unfortunately we ended up losing 4-0 to a very strong team. Our second game saw us up against the eventual winners of the whole competition, Breaside. We lost 6-1 but on the bright side we scored our first goal of the day and ended up being the only school to score against Breaside all competition.

Our third match saw us play Lingfield College. It was a match which went back and forth with Jude scoring our 2 goals, but we narrowly lost 3-2. However, in our 4^th match we won an amazing 5-0, with Caiden, Laurence and Vivvy all getting on the scoresheet. Our last group match against Weston Green was a hard fought 1-1 draw.

In our group, we finished in 5^th place out of 6, narrowly missing out on progressing to the knockout stages. We did however get the chance to then play some friendly games with other schools who were knocked out. It was a great day of football and we all really enjoyed it.
