Harvest Festival – Thursday 3rd October 2024

On Thursday 3rd October 2024 we met at St Mary’s Church for our annual morning Harvest Festival Service.  The children were suitably excited and the church was packed with parents and family members.  My thanks to Mrs Stevens, our Head of Music and other members of staff who were involved in preparing the musical items.  Thanks too, to Mr Womersley, our Year 6 Teacher for preparing the readers.  Reverend Frany gave us a warm welcome and presented a very interesting address.  It was pleasing to note some of the children’s thoughts on their desert island accessories and choices.  These ranged from scorpions to bikinis.

As always, our parents provided generous supplies of provisions for the Trussell Trust.  A special thanks to Mrs Carter and her helpers for collecting the donations, making a wonderful display in the church of them, and then distributing them.

By tradition the Kindergarten children were delivered back to school by minibus.  The rest of the school formed a walking train and we made our way back to Oakhyrst on foot in glorious sunshine.

My sincere thanks to everyone involved for providing yet another wonderful community event.

Mr Alex Gear, Headmaster

U8 & U9 Football Fixture v Caterham School – Tuesday 1st October 2024

On Tuesday 1st October, our Year 3 & 4 Boys travelled to Caterham Prep School to participate in some friendly football fixtures. Thankfully the rain stayed away, and the boys really enjoyed the afternoon. Rhian P & Philip B (Year 4) have briefly described how we got on.

Our team beat Caterham 3-0 in our first match with us all playing well and putting pressure on their goalkeeper. After this, the teachers mixed the teams up to make the sides were a little fairer. At full time, this game finished in a draw. It was a fun afternoon. Rhian – Year 4.

I really enjoyed the match against Caterham. The passing from our team was very good and we were able to get the ball forward towards their goal often. We scored some goals which we were delighted about. Our defending improved throughout the match and we worked well together. Philip – Year 4.

Congratulations to the School Councillors 2024

On Wednesday 18th September 2024, fourteen Year 6 pupils presented their election speeches to the whole school in our weekly assembly in their drive to become the new President or Vice-President of our School Council Team. The standard of the speeches was outstanding and each filled with exciting ideas and interesting initiatives. It was fantastic to hear all of the wonderful ideas that the children had and we hope to see many of these evolving throughout this academic year. All the year six candidates made posters that are now up on display around the school for all to see.

On Thursday 19th September 2024, all pupils in classes Year 1 to Year 6 were involved in voting for two school council representatives from their own class along with their votes for the Year 6 positions. This is a very important part of our school life as it provides all of the children an opportunity to share their ideas with their peers across a variety of school matters and make their own personal votes in relation to the School Council team.

This year’s School Council team consists of:

Year 1 – Manny and Georgina, Year 2 – Willow and Oscar, Year 3 – Isla and Jasmine, Year 4 – Theo and Violet, Year 5 – Eliza and Laurence. The two Vice-Presidents from Year 6 are Amaaya and Heath.  The President of the School Council team this year is Daniel.

We look forward to holding fortnightly School Council meetings and feeding back to the school on all of our ideas and projects throughout the terms.

Well done to everyone who has been involved in this year’s School Council Election process.
