The ISA Swimming Nationals on Friday the 28th November, held at the impressive Olympic pool in London Stratford, was an exciting and momentous day. 

Mrs Evans did a fantastic job organising the London South team, ensuring the day ran smoothly for all involved.

Lizzie Kelly gave an outstanding performance, winning a gold medal in the 50m backstroke in the para race. She was the only pupil from Oakhyrst Grange School to reach the Nationals. She was racing alongside three other girls, two from junior school and two senior school. 

What a great achievement on an unforgettable day! 

Over the past week, all Year 3–6 girls took part in several exciting netball matches against Cumnor House Girls School. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork, impressive effort, and genuine enthusiasm throughout every game.

On Tuesday 18^th November, Year 3 delivered a thrilling performance, securing a narrow 5–4 victory in an end to end match. On the same day, Year 4 fought valiantly, showing great determination despite a close loss.

On Wednesday 19^th November, both the Year 5 and 6 teams enjoyed strong, competitive matches, highlighted by some outstanding individual performances.

Overall, it was two fun-filled afternoons of netball, with every girl representing the school brilliantly. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support – it is greatly appreciated.

Miss Lomax

Oakhyrst Grange’s artists came out in force this week to represent OGS in the Independent Schools Association Christmas Banner Competition. We had so many wonderful entries and it was hard to pick which we thought were best. Mrs Dowling, Mrs McKiernan and Mrs Mitchell spent a lot of time looking over the work and picked one winner from each class. These winning entries have now been sent off for consideration by the ISA and we will be sure to pass on any good news we receive!

This year’s whole school cross country event was a great success, even in the bitterly cold weather that greeted us on the day. Despite the snowy and cold conditions earlier on the morning, every child showed real determination, enthusiasm, and resilience during their race. It was clear that everyone tried their very best from start to finish and were cheered on the whole way around by our brave hearted parents who came to support.

A key change this year was allowing children from Year 2-6 the choice of how many laps they wish to run. It was great to see children take this responsibility on themselves and have an ownership of how much they wished to push themselves around our cross-country course. We also included joint year-group races this year with Year 3&4 and Year 5&6 running together respectively. This worked extremely well and it was great to see the younger children push themselves against the older children.

To celebrate effort and achievement, boys & girls in each class were awarded bronze, silver, and gold medals as well as stickers for the remaining children outside of the Top 3. It was encouraging to see so many children proud of their progress and supportive of one another throughout. Special thanks also to Year 6, who took on their responsibilities brilliantly whilst running with the Reception children and in particular Sienna & Caiden (Games captains) who scored the whole event.

A big thank you goes to all staff for their cooperation in ensuring the afternoon ran smoothly, to parents for supporting and braving the weather, and of course to our chef for preparing the much-appreciated hot chocolate that warmed everyone up after their races.

On Tuesday 18 November, pupils from Years 3 to 6 travelled to compete in a friendly swimming gala against Caterham School. This event was particularly special as it marked the very first gala experience for our Year 3 boys, who approached the occasion with enthusiasm, determination, and wonderful team spirit.

Despite a few last minute illnesses resulting in several substitutions, every swimmer who stepped in rose to the challenge superbly. Their adaptability and effort were evident throughout the afternoon, and they should feel genuinely proud of how they performed.

The gala featured a number of extremely close races, especially within the individual events, where our swimmers battled hard and demonstrated impressive technique and resilience. The atmosphere was exciting, with strong performances across all year groups.

The final score was Oakhyrst Grange 211 Caterham 308. While Caterham secured the overall win, our swimmers showed tremendous commitment, teamwork, and progress, qualities that reflect the growing strength of swimming across the school.

Most importantly, the children were impeccably behaved throughout. They supported one another brilliantly, represented the school with maturity and positivity, and were a credit to Oakhyrst Grange both in and out of the pool.

A huge well done to every swimmer who took part. Thank you also to all the parents and siblings who came along to cheer and support the team. Your encouragement made a real difference and was greatly appreciated.

Year 5&6 Football Fixtures v Chinthurst

Our Year 5&6 Boys divided themselves into A, B and C football teams in a series of competitive football matches against Chinthurst school last Wednesday 12^th November.

A Team

The A team produced a spirited performance in a challenging match that ended in a 5–1 defeat. After an excellent first half, the teams went into the break level at 0–0, with our players showing strong organisation, work rate and discipline. Early in the second half, we continued to compete well and created several promising chances. However, in the final five minutes the opposition found a burst of momentum, scoring a flurry of late goals to secure the win. Despite the result, the boys should be proud of their determination and the quality of football they displayed for the majority of the game.

B Team

The B team also faced tough opposition and, although they were unable to secure a victory, they showed clear signs of improvement throughout the match. Their commitment, teamwork and willingness to take on feedback were evident, and the fixture gave the players an excellent opportunity to test themselves in a competitive environment.

C Team

Similarly, the C team worked hard in what proved to be a fast-paced and physical game. While the result did not go their way, the players demonstrated resilience, enthusiasm and encouraging development in their skills and positional play. The match provided valuable experience and plenty of positives to build on.

On Sunday 9th November 2025, our school had the fantastic opportunity to visit Bromley Football Club to watch the London City Lionesses in action, an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. A group of excited children, accompanied by staff and several supportive parents, enjoyed an afternoon of top-quality Women’s football.

The match itself was full of excitement, ending in a 4–2 victory for the London City Lionesses. The children were thrilled to witness a range of brilliant moments, including a well-taken penalty right in front of our seats, a superbly struck free kick, and several passages of excellent play that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

One of the highlights of the trip came after the final whistle. The children had the amazing opportunity to meet some of the Lionesses players in person. They collected autographs, took photographs, and enjoyed conversations with one lucky child winning a signed ball.

A huge thank-you goes to London City Lionesses for offering our school this wonderful opportunity and to our Oakhyrst Grange families for coming along. We hope to be able to attend again in the not-too-distant future.

This week, our U11 Girls football team took part in the Surrey Cup for the very first time — an exciting FA Cup style knockout competition! We faced tough opposition in Warren Mead School who had some extremely talented players. Our girls worked hard and showed great determination throughout, despite it being a difficult afternoon. No one ever gave up!

It was also the first match opportunity for several of our players, who rose to the challenge brilliantly and gained valuable experience. The highlight of the game came when we scored a fantastic goal, courtesy of Sienna, sparking huge smiles and cheers from everyone watching! Another notable highlight was Ophelia saving a penalty!

A great effort all round and a proud moment for our team in their first Surrey Cup appearance.

7 children from Year 3 took part in a competitive 8-school tournament last weekend, 8th November 2025, featuring two groups of four teams. Drawn into a tough group, our players battled hard in each of their three-group stage matches, but despite their best efforts, the results didn’t go our way.

In the Plate semi-final, the team faced another strong opponent in Aberdour School. Despite creating chances and defending bravely, we fell to a 3-1 defeat.

The children should be extremely proud of their efforts. They showed real improvement throughout the day, growing in confidence and cohesion as a team. For some, it was their first competitive experience. A big well done to Edie R-B who picked up our player of the tournament award for her two goals and general awesomeness on the pitch.

Before half term, some of our Year 5 & 6 runners took part in an exciting cross country competition held at the amazing venue of Epsom College. It featured a challenging 2.5km course with hundreds of competitors lining up for each of the four races.

It was an incredible atmosphere and the children were well supported throughout the course. All our athletes gave it their absolute best, showing great determination, effort, and perseverance throughout.

A special mention goes to our standout performer, Ophelia, who achieved our best result of the day with an outstanding 6th-place finish in the Year 5 Girls race. It was a fantastic day of running, and every participant should be proud of their effort and enthusiasm.
