Our selected U8 & U9 girls’ football teams went to Reigate St Mary’s School for their first ever girls football fixture. They were split into two pitches with our Year 4 girls playing two 15 mins games against RSM A Team and Year 3 girls playing against their B/C teams.

Year 4s played an incredible game working well together making space and following with the ball down the pitch. In the first half Isabelle L scored two goals and second half Alice S scored a fantastic goal. Unfortunately, it ended with 3-5 to RSM. A special mention goes to Thea B for her incredible goalie saves she did in the game.

Year 3 girls played two fantastic games against both B/C teams. They were working well as a team and using the pitch in great ways. First game ended in 3-0 to Oakhyrst and game two ended with 4-0 win to Oakhyrst. A very special mention goes to Edith R-B for scoring all 7 goals for her team.

I would like to thank all parents who came to watch and support the girls. And a huge thank you to Miss Hopkins for coming along and being a huge support to both teams, it’s very much appreciated!

Well done to all girls who took part in the fixture. You should all be extremely proud of yourself for the hard work you put into these matches.

Following on from our participation in the Regional ISA Cross Country competition back in February, six of our pupils qualified to compete in the National Cross-Country Finals in Leicester. They combined together with other children to form a ‘London South’ team who then competed against other regions across the UK.

Facing off against some of the best young runners in the country, they took on a tough 2km course with over 60 competitors in each race. After what was a very long journey, our runners put in outstanding performances, finishing in the following positions:

U9 Girls:

Isabelle L – 11^th place

Ophelia W – 17^th place

U11 Girls:

Vivienne L – 11^th place

Isla G – 40^th place

Bonnie B – 44^th place

A special mention should go to Isla G who ran most of the race with one shoe on after a slight mis-hap with the mud! A huge thank you to all the parents who supported the team, both in traveling to Leicester and cheering them on throughout the event. Congratulations to all our competitors for representing the school so well at this National. The whole school are very proud of your efforts.

It was a fantastic sunny day at Farthing Downs as Oakhyrst Grange were invited to take part in a cross-country race, organised by South London Harriers. It was going to be a challenging course with a tough incline against other strong runners.

Five children represented our school, demonstrating determination and great sportsmanship throughout their respective races. Our runners put in excellent performances, finishing in the following positions:

Year 3&4 Girls race:

• Georgia R-B – 6^th place
• Cara M – 29^th place
• Edie R-B – 32^nd place

Year 3&4 Boys race:

• Thomas Y – 33^rd position

Year 5&6 Boys race:

• Alex W – 24^th place

The race was made even more special by the lovely sunshine and the fantastic support from parents, who cheered on our runners from start to finish. Their encouragement was greatly appreciated.

On Saturday 8th March, two Year 6 teams took part in “It’s A Fish Out” a life saving competition for primary schools in Surrey held at Dorking Leisure Centre.
Amaaya, Ilana, Isla & Jessica were in one team and Ania, Daniel, Ellie & Vivvy were in the other.

The activities consisted of rope throwing, straddle entries, a relay with head up swimming, ball throwing to a person in the water, questions on water safety, an underwater baton relay, treading water, sculling, and lifting a brick out of the water by surface diving.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed this beneficial experience and they had lots of fun working in their teams together.

23 teams took part from 13 schools – our A team come 5th and B team 9th, well done.

A very big thank you to Mrs Cox for all your help in the lead up to this competition and on the day.

Also, a big thank you to Ellie for stepping in at the last minute. And lastly a big thank you to the parents and siblings for supporting the children and coming to watch.

It was a fantastic, and sunny, afternoon of hockey on Tuesday which saw our Year 3 and 4 children put in some great performances on the pitch against Chinthurst School. There were plenty of goals, some excellent teamwork, and some brilliant defensive work on display. The matches were played at a high intensity, with every child giving it their all.

All of the Year 3 teams showed great determination, scoring some impressive goals. Overall, both the Yellow & Orange teams tied for first place with the Red team finishing in a very respectable 2^nd place.

The Year 4 teams demonstrated their strength and skill, and certainly showed some great improvements from their previous fixture in January. Both the red team and the blue team could not be separated on points, both finishing in 1^st position.

Overall, Oakhyrst Grange emerged victorious. A huge well done to all the children for their effort and enthusiasm, and to the parents and supporters who came along to cheer on the teams. Well done, everyone!

On Tuesday 25th February 2025, 21 of our KS2 individuals took part in the Regional ISA Cross Country Competition at Radnor House School. With approximately 80 children competing in each race over a challenging 2km course, the competition was fierce, but every one of our runners gave their absolute best.

The course varied in terrain with areas of downhills, mud, gravel, and some demanding uphill sections towards the end of the races. Despite the challenges, every child showed great spirit and effort, demonstrating the hard work they’ve put into their cross country both within school and in their own time.

There were several outstanding individual performances, with all of our results listed below. Some runners were competing against children a full year older than them so a terrific effort to just be able to compete and finish the races:

Beyond the individual successes above, our U11 Girls team finished as overall winners and it was great to be able to celebrate their success as a whole school! We’re all very proud of their efforts!

A huge well done to all children for their fantastic efforts, and thanks to the supporters and organisers who helped make the event such a success. We look forward to the next race!

Three Year 6 girls Ellie C, Isla G and Amaaya P planned, baked and decorated cakes by themselves to hold a Bake Sale on Friday 14th February 2025 to raise money for Julia’s House, a Children’s Hospice in Dorset and Wiltshire, dedicated to bringing comfort and care to families across the two counties.

The girls would like to send a huge thank you to their school community for supporting their bake sale.  They have raised a fabulous  £500 for Julia’s house and are thankful to Mr Womersley and Mr Gear for supporting their idea.
