Prep (8-11)A Day In the Life of Prep

Years 3–6 (Ages 7–11)

Every day in our Prep School is designed to challenge, inspire and prepare children for the next stage of their education. With a broad academic curriculum, specialist teaching and a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom, pupils develop the confidence, independence and resilience to thrive. Set within our beautiful five-and-a-half-acre grounds, every day offers new opportunities to learn, explore and grow.

8:00am – A Positive Start

Children arrive to a warm welcome from staff before settling into their classrooms. Registration gives pupils time to prepare for the day ahead, catch up with friends and begin the morning feeling focused and ready to learn.

Morning Lessons

The morning is centred around core subjects, including English, Mathematics and Science, where children are challenged to think critically, solve problems and develop a deep understanding of key concepts. Small class sizes ensure every pupil receives individual attention and is encouraged to achieve their personal best.

Morning Break

A chance to recharge and enjoy time outdoors with friends. Our extensive grounds provide plenty of space for games, conversation and fresh air before lessons resume.

Specialist Teaching

Prep pupils benefit from specialist teaching across a wide range of subjects, including French, Music, Drama, Art, Design Technology, Computing, PE and Swimming. Lessons are engaging, hands-on and designed to nurture creativity, collaboration and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.

Lunch Time

Freshly prepared lunches are served each day in a relaxed, family-style environment. Lunchtime is an opportunity to socialise, play and enjoy the outdoors before the afternoon’s activities begin.

An Afternoon of Discovery

Afternoons are filled with enriching learning experiences, from Humanities and STEM projects to performances, practical investigations and outdoor learning. Children are encouraged to ask questions, work collaboratively and develop the confidence to take on new challenges.

Beyond the Classroom

Education at Oakhyrst Grange extends far beyond the timetable. Pupils enjoy a wide variety of clubs, sports teams, musical ensembles, drama productions and leadership opportunities, helping them discover new interests, develop talents and contribute positively to school life.

Home Time... or Keep the Adventure Going!

The school day finishes at 3.30-3.45pm, with many pupils choosing to stay for our extensive programme of after-school clubs, sports training and wraparound care until 6.00pm.

Preparing for Success

Prep School at Oakhyrst Grange is about so much more than academic achievement. It is where children become confident learners, compassionate friends and resilient young people, ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of senior school. Every day is carefully planned to ensure our pupils leave with not only excellent academic foundations, but also the character, confidence and curiosity to succeed in whatever path they choose.
