Every day in our Early Years setting is carefully planned to provide a balance of learning, discovery, creativity and fun. Through a nurturing environment and a child-centred approach, we help our youngest learners develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.
EYFS (3-5) A Day in the life of EYFS
8:30am – 8:40am-Arrival and Welcome
Children are warmly welcomed into school and begin to organise themselves for the day. This helps them transition happily into the school day and provides opportunities to socialise with friends.
8:45am – 9:00am | Registration or Assembly
The day begins with registration, sharing news, discussing the day’s activities and exploring topics linked to our learning themes. Our youngest children also attend assemblies twice a week with the rest of the school.
9:00am – 10:15am | Purposeful Learning Through Play and Specialist Subjects
Children take part in a variety of teacher-led and child-initiated activities both indoors and outdoors. Opportunities include:
- Early reading and phonics
- Mark-making, writing and storytelling
- Maths and number exploration
- Construction and problem-solving
- Creative arts and role play
- Outdoor learning and physical development
10:20am – 10:40am | Snack and Play Time
Snack time consists of a healthy snack and spending time chatting with friends, developing important social skills and independence.
10:40am – 12:00pm | Purposeful Learning Through Play and Specialist Subjects Continues
Learning continues through exciting activities designed to spark curiosity and imagination. Children may investigate nature, explore sensory experiences, take part in music sessions or enjoy specialist lessons.
Our specialist subjects include:
- Music
- PE
- Games
- Art
- Swimming
- Forest school
- Cookery
- French (for Reception class)
12.00pm-12.20pm Story and Song Time
The children are read with daily to ensure exposure to a wide range of vocabulary including rhyming words, counting syllables and initial sounds which is very important in the early years of school life.
At 12.20pm those staying for the morning session only will go home. Story and song time with the rest of the class will continue. We then prepare for lunch in the hall with the rest of the school.
12:40pm – 1:55pm | Lunch and Outdoor Play
A nutritious lunch is followed by supervised outdoor play, giving children time to run, climb, explore and enjoy fresh air.
1:00pm – 2:30pm | Purposeful Learning Through Play and Specialist Subjects Continues
Afternoons include a mixture of focused learning activities, small group work and opportunities for children to follow their own interests. Regular storytelling sessions help foster a love of books and language.
2:30pm – 3:20pm | Reflection and Home Time Preparation
The day ends with story time, singing, reflection on the day’s achievements and preparation for home time.
