At Oakhyrst Grange, our Prep curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, challenge every child and nurture a lifelong love of learning. Combining academic excellence with creativity, practical experiences and outstanding pastoral care, we ensure every pupil develops the knowledge, skills and confidence to flourish.

With small class sizes and specialist teaching across many subjects, we tailor learning to meet the needs of every child. We encourage pupils to think independently, ask questions, solve problems and embrace new challenges, preparing them not only for senior school but for life beyond the classroom.

Children develop strong reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through an engaging curriculum that encourages creativity, critical thinking and a love of literature. From persuasive writing and poetry to class novels and public speaking, pupils grow into confident communicators.

Mathematics

Our Mathematics curriculum develops fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Through practical resources, investigations and real-life applications, pupils gain confidence while being appropriately challenged to achieve their full potential.

Science is taught through exciting investigations and hands-on experiments that encourage children to question, predict and discover. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are explored through practical learning, helping pupils develop scientific thinking and curiosity.

Children develop essential digital skills through coding, programming, online safety and creative computing projects, preparing them for an increasingly digital world.

Design Technology

Design Technology

Design Technology encourages innovation, resilience and practical problem-solving. Pupils design, make and evaluate products using a variety of materials and tools.

Drama

Drama

Drama builds confidence, creativity and communication skills through performance, improvisation and storytelling. Pupils regularly perform in productions and class assemblies, developing self-expression and teamwork.

Humanities

Humanities

History and Geography lessons bring the world to life through enquiry-based learning, projects and educational visits. Pupils explore different cultures, historical events and environmental issues while developing analytical and research skills.

Linguistics

Linguistics

French is taught by specialist teachers, enabling pupils to build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing another language from an early age.

Music

Music

Music is an important part of life at Oakhyrst Grange. Specialist teaching develops musical understanding through singing, instrumental work, composition and performance. Many pupils also participate in choirs, ensembles and productions.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning

Our beautiful grounds provide the perfect setting for outdoor learning. Through Forest School activities, environmental projects and hands-on exploration, children develop resilience, teamwork and a deeper appreciation of nature.

Physical Education & Games

Physical Education & Games

Our varied PE programme promotes physical fitness, teamwork and resilience. Pupils enjoy a wide range of sports, including netball, football, hockey, cricket, athletics, tennis and gymnastics, alongside competitive fixtures and tournaments.

Religious Education

Religious Education

Religious Education encourages pupils to explore different faiths, beliefs and values while developing respect, empathy and an understanding of the diverse world around them.

Swimming

Swimming

Weekly swimming lessons help pupils develop confidence and competence in the water while promoting lifelong water safety skills.

Learning Beyond the Classroom
