On Saturday 13th May 2023, Alex W (Year 3), participated in a sponsored swimathon organised by Caterham, Oxted and Godstone Lions Club, which was held at nearby De Stafford Sports Centre. Alex swam in one of two Cub teams representing and raising money for the 21st Purley Scout Group. Each team had to collectively swim as many lengths as possible within 30 minutes. Alex’s team managed 40 lengths (1 km), with Alex swimming 7 of those lengths (175m). Alex personally raised £127 in sponsorship – we are still waiting for the final figure raised by both Cub teams.
Alex said “This was the first time I have done a swimathon and I was nervous swimming with everyone else but it was really great fun and I am proud of myself and the number of lengths I swam. During the swim I used different strokes including front crawl, breaststroke and dolphin. I can’t wait to be part of another swimathon!”
