Swimming Galas are back with a bang – Thursday 13th January

How exciting to be back competing against local schools after nearly 2 years. 32 children from Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 travelled to Royal Russell School in South Croydon on Thursday 13th January. The gala started with the individual races, frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, there were some really tight finishes and excellent swims from all of the children. Next, all of the children swam in the freestyle relays, girls and boys from each year groups swimming against each other. To finish the gala the children in year 5 and 6 took part in medley relays, each team of 4 swimming 1 length of either backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and frontcrawl.

The gala came to an end after some amazing swims from the children and the scores were announced. OGS Year 3 team came 1st, Year 4 was a draw, Year 5 came 1st and Year 6 were narrowly beaten. The overall winners were Oakhyrst Grange School.

Very well done to the whole swimming team and thank you to the parents who helped with the transportation to the gala and Mrs Ashdown-Parkes for helping me on poolside.
