On Thursday 18th May, 30 pupils from Years 4 to 6 completed in this year’s ISA London South Athletics event at the Excel Sports Hub in Walton. It was very warm so hydration was going to be the key to succeed today. Some of the children started off competing in the 600m races while a few other children went off to compete in their long jump or ball throwing competitions.
As the day went on and the heat got less manageable, we were now working towards the sprint races and 150m races. While we had had lots of practise, the high level of athletes at this event was remarkable!
The day was finished with the 100m relay event. Even though the competition was at a high standard, Oakhyrst gave it their all on the day and competed so well. Sadly, we didn’t manage for anyone to qualify this year for the ISA Nationals, but this doesn’t mean we won’t stop trying.
A thank you to the staff who assisted with the event and a massive well done to all the children for attending and competing.
